This October, DivInc is collaborating in the launch of the first-ever DAF Day, a new kind of giving day that reframes how donor advised funds (DAFs) are used–and who uses them.
DAFs are a tax-advantaged charitable giving account, similar to a 401(k) for retirement or a Health Saving Account (HSA) for health care expenses. DAFs have expanded rapidly in recent years, with the number of accounts growing 9x since 2012, disbursing $52 billion in 2022. New research on nonprofit DAF fundraising shows that DAF donors give 19x as much as non-DAF donors, and when an existing non-DAF donor starts giving from a DAF, their annual support increases 96%. In summary, donor-advised funds are growing in popularity because they provide tax benefits, investment growth potential, and flexibility in giving, while simplifying the charitable process.
DivInc joins Chariot, the payments company dedicated to DAF giving, along with top nonprofits, major fundraising platforms, and donor advised funds themselves, to boost the usage and adoption of this fast-growing philanthropic vehicle in the weeks leading up to DAF Day on October 10th.
This movement comes at a critical time for our mission as the racial wealth gap continues to grow. Support for underrepresented founders is challenged by changing economic, political, and social conditions. We need to act now to see long term changes. With $230 billion already set aside for giving in DAF accounts, the potential for organizations like ours is immense.
Ahead of DAF Day, we are encouraging donors with any DAF to sign up on DAFday.com in support of DivInc.
If you’re interested in how a DAF could increase your personal giving capacity, we also encourage you to explore DAF options before October 10th. You can reach out to Grace Lanni at grace@divinc.org to learn more.
With new research proving the value of DAFs to donors and nonprofits, combined with the technology to enable real-time participation of DAF donors in an online giving day, the stage is set for a moment of unprecedented generosity.
