DivInc’s Top 10 Diversity + Inclusion Event Recommendations at 2018 Austin Startup Week

Nothing says fall in Central Texas like 80-degree weather and Austin Startup Week. This year, we at DivInc are particularly impressed with the many events curated with Diversity and Inclusion in mind. In chronological order, below you’ll find our top recommendations.

1. Startup Weekend Austin | Veterans, Presented by Grow with Google

When: Friday Sept. 28th - Sunday Sept. 30th

Techstars Startup Weekend Austin and Google are joining forces to host this three-day conference. Anyone interested in launching a business is welcome, but it’s particularly designed for veterans and their families, which is why we’re recommending it. RSVP here.

2. Women in Tech Summit

When: Monday Oct. 1st 9am-5pm

Where: Capital Factory 701 Brazos St., Austin, TX 78701

Committed to improving the gender ratio in tech, Capital Factory, Women@Austin and DivInc are holding the 2nd Annual Women in Tech Summit. The keynote speaker is Bumble COO Sarah Jones Simmer, who is spearheading the new Bumble Fund aimed at investing in female entrepreneurs. RSVP here.

3. How Austin Becomes The Nation’s Capital for Diversity, Homegrown Tech Talent

When: Tuesday Oct. 2nd 9:30am-10:45am

Every year in Austin, thousands of computer science jobs go unfilled. At the same time, thousands of local high school students from minority or low-income backgrounds lack access to STEM career training. 5. Austin’s Immigrant Entrepreneurs: Some Amazing Stories

Starting your own business takes guts, especially if you’re an immigrant. Yet we have immigrants and children of immigrants to thank for many job-creating companies. In fact, immigrants are more likely than native-born Americans to be small business owners. Another impressive statistic: 25% of Austin’s startup founders are immigrants. 6. Women in EdTech

8. Fixing the Gender Gap in STEM: Positive Takeaway from the Soviet Era
